AEW Grand Slam review

 Dream Match: Danielson vs Omega

A dream match for All Elite Wrestling fans led off Wednesday's Dynamite show at Arthur Ashe Stadium.

Bryan Danielson and Kenny Omega traded offensive maneuvers in one of the best showcase matches between accomplished world champions.

The time limit expired for the match as Danielson made an attempt at a Yes Lock but couldn't get it locked in on Omega.

Hoping this is the build up for a potential rematch for Omega's AEW championship.

CM Punk promo for match with Powerhouse Hobbs

"It's been a long time since professional wrestling has been in New York City" was one of CM Punk's opening lines in his promo before facing "Powerhouse" Will Hobbs on Friday's Rampage.

After responding to Hobbs attack last week in attempt at putting Punk through the announcers booth, Punk said it will be "his job to put his a** to sleep."

Stephen Amell, a co-star with Punk on the Starz show Heels, was seen greeting Punk at ringside after the promo.

Punk's second match in AEW will sure show a bigger challenge.

MJF vs Pillman Jr

Brian Pillman Jr got to have his first high profile Dynamite match with MJF.

Pillman took advantage of almost every time MJF showed arrogance until he got caught in the Salt of the Earth arm lock for the submission win.

Hoping this match will help grow Pillman's career in AEW.

Rhodes vs Black

In Cody Rhodes return rematch with Malachi Black, his wife Brandi returned to accompany him along with Arn Anderson.

As Rhodes provided a better challenge than the first time they met, Black was able to pick up the win after spraying Cody in the face with black mist.

As this should end the feud between Black and the Nightmare Family, Black should be built up into a contender for the TNT Championship.

FTR vs Sting/Darby

Sting had his first tag team match on AEW Dynamite with Darby Allin against FTR.

It was an all out battle as Sting won the match with the Scorpion Death Lock.

Tully Blanchard also got involved with placing a steel chair in the turnbuckle in attempt to hurt Sting after a missed Stinger Splash but it turned up unsuccessful.

I think the feud is just building between Sting and Blanchard as they did have a feud in WCW back in the late 80s to early 90s.

AEW women's championship: Ruby Soho vs Dr. Britt Baker D.M.D.

Ruby Soho got her chance at the AEW women's championship after winning the Casino Battle Royal at All Out in hopes of building her credibility as an individual performer.

Many near falls took place until help from Jamie Hayter helped Britt Baker get the win with her signature jaw lock.

Could Soho get another shot after the sneaky interference?

Also Thunder Rosa is next in line in the rankings to challenge for the AEW women's championship.

CM Punk wins debut Rampage match

CM Punk vs "Powerhouse" Will Hobbs kicked off the two-hour Rampage Grand Slam edition.

As it seemed to be his toughest challenge for Punk's first televised match in seven years, he was able to hit the GTS on Hobbs for the pinfall win.

Just who will be the next challenger for CM Punk?

Trios Tag: Super Kliq vs Jurassic Express/Christian

The Super Kliq, comprised of Young Bucks and Adam Cole, faced the challenge from Jurassic Express and Christian Cage.

After giving out super kicks, Adam Cole got the win for his team by pinfall.

Super Kliq should be early contenders for a Trios Tag Team Championship if and when AEW introduces it.

Sky/Page vs Jericho/Hager

In what was a competitive tag team match, Dan Lambert provided a distraction for Scorpio Sky to get the roll up pin on Jake Hager.

It led to Lambert's group of MMA competitors to come down to ringside to attack Hager and Chris Jericho as they were planning an attack on Lambert.

Another cross promotion getting full exposure in All Elite Wrestling.

Lights Out: Moxley/Kingston vs Archer/Suzuki

In this unsanctioned main event, Arthur Ashe Stadium turned into a hardcore war zone.

The appearance of Homicide helped out Jon Moxley and Eddie Kingston a bit in getting the win.

Other matches set for next week

Other matches and promos on the Rampage show set up Orange Cassidy vs Jack Evans in a Hair vs Hair match, Miro defending the TNT Championship against Sammy Guevara, Anna Jay/Tay Conti vs Penelope Ford/Bunny, and Jungle Boy vs Adam Cole next week.

As the Dark Order continues to be at opposite ends, will something happen soon to bring them back together?
